The joy of sharing with your sister

The Big One has a wobbly tooth. It’s her first one and it’s been a long wait as all her friends at home and here have already lost at least one tooth, if not more.

She discovered it tonight as she snuggled down to go to sleep and was very excited. The Little One was just as excited and I sat outside the bedroom and listened to them taking it in turns to wobble the tooth, whilst the Little One listened avidly to everything the Big One told her about the Tooth Fairy and what the tooth felt like.

It made me so pleased that they have each other. There is nothing like having a sister to share everything with. Someone who can immediately understand you and be just as excited for you (or sad for you, if needs be) as you are yourself. Or to put you right (in no uncertain terms!) if they think you’re wrong… I’m lucky enough to have two sisters who are always there when I need them and understand exactly how I think and feel about things. I hope I manage to do as good as job for them – it’s certainly a bit more of a challenge from this distance.

I hope our girls can stay best friends and be there for each other in the same way I witnessed tonight. One of the benefits of coming abroad is that the girls have become very close and rely on each other, not in an unhealthy way, but hopefully in a way that will be the foundation for a lifetime of love and support. I’m not expecting them to always agree or get along but I hope they’ll be as lucky as me.

In the meantime, it’s lovely listening to the giggles and to see the sharing.
