The advantages of an Elf in the house

Yesterday my Lovely Husband went off on a business trip to Canada so that left the girls and me at home, with not much to do as it was a rainy day. The house is in a bit of a muddle as I’ve had a week of (very) early starts with work and so I wanted to tidy up.

I made a half-hearted attempt at tidying the bedrooms and to my astonishment both girls said they wanted to help. I armed them with dusters and cloths and they set about their bathroom and bedroom with enthusiasm.

I know it looks like slave labour… but it was voluntary!

Normally when this happens they tend to lose interest after 10 minutes but not today. They both worked really hard until their bathroom was sparkling clean, and then they started on their bedroom.

After half an hour, and with the upstairs now looking spotless, the Big One piped up: “Do you think the Elf can see us working hard and helping you?”

Ah ha! The Elf’s influence even works upstairs when he’s out of sight.

And my answer? “Most definitely yes. In fact, he and Father Christmas can spot good behaviour all year round without even being in the house!”

Obviously this will be forgotten by Boxing Day (26th December) but I can always hope…
