New Years Eve is always a dilemma – to stay in, to go out, what to do with the children. This year we ignored the posh party at the club and a party invitation, and stayed home with the girls.
The girls decided on what we’d cook for dinner and helped prepare it (steak and roast potatoes, followed by home-made chocolate ice cream) and spent half the day decorating their secret hide out for us. They also helped tidy up. We’d found some crackers too so we all had silly hats and the games inside, which pleased the girls, as we couldn’t find any crackers for Christmas in Crested Butte.
After dinner, we watched the countdown to midnight in London, all snuggled up on the sofa together. The fireworks were amazing and it was nice for the girls to see them live rather than watching a recording the next morning.
The girls were in bed and asleep by 10pm so we watched the countdown to midnight in New York and counted that as midnight. We’d seen two by then, which is surely enough for anyone!
Our new years resolution is a family one – to write down all the good things that happen to us during the year and put them in this jar:
On New Years Eve 2013, we’ll open it and remember all the good things that have happened this year. Hopefully it will also remind us to be grateful for all the lovely people and things around us too.
